Apparently, my first gig in Canada was not Black Sabbath but Red Hot Chili Peppers tribute and it was a complete disaster anyways. I had a lot of fun as I always do. I made new friends like I always do when I go anywhere on my own. But this tribute band was kinda lame. The good thing about it was the vocalist who got rid of all his clothes. Probably, to continue the crazy Anthony’s traditions. The rest of the evening stays between me and my new Canadian friends. Amen.
Ok, but let’s move on. It’s Black Sabbath for just 40 bucks that’s the highlight of this post, and not RHCP.
There was a wild storm in my mind before purchasing the ticket. Fortunately, I had time to think about a solution, as only small concerts sell out in 5 min in this massive country (which has a population of 36 million). When such a star like BS arrives, you can be 100% sure that you can still purchase a ticket even a few hours before the show. Unfortunately, when I tried to buy a ticket, the cheapest ones were sold out and at that time the cheapest ticket meant spending 100$. I hesitated a lot, I only had 2500$ for the whole year and I had planned to travel all over CA and the US. God help… what should I do now? My amazing intuition told me that I should check prices just before the show. So I did! Thanks Jesus, because just before the show tickets for 50$ have been thrown in and I could get one! The show day finally came and other dilemmas with it. Should I take a subway or should I go on foot? For the 200th time, I was making calculations in my head (all travellers do it on a daily basis). So, a return subway ticket would cost me 6$. What else could I get for 6$? Of course for 6$ I could get… a beer! With this in mind, I bought a beer and started walking. Nobody wants to be late for a BS concert. When I got into the stadium, I was positively surprised - nobody was checking tickets in individual sections. It looked like I could watch the show from any spot I wanted, and of course I was dreaming about the first row, just in the front of stage. How surprised I was when I saw a bunch of chairs there. Yes, they put thousands of chairs in front of the stage for a freaking metal concert. The only thing I could do was to find another spot. My seat was one of the cheapest, which meant it was not close to the stage at all. I had to find another one. I managed to see a half of the Rival Sons concert from the lower level of the stadium, located closer to stage. After 40 minutes, the security guard noticed that I did not belong there and kindly asked me to change the section for the right one which I did not do, of course. I just moved across the section parallel to the one I had occupied before. So ended up in trouble again, but this time I got an unkind note on my ticket saying: “In case of further disobedience, expel this girl from the building”. Ok ok.. I will be a good girl until they play Paranoid. Then I was going to move to the first row and not think about the consequences. I’d planned that out the whole night before. I will not give up, man!
In the end, I watched more than half the show from the upper level which was good as it turned out in Centre Bell (where the concert took place) the sound is great wherever you stand. I may just rate it 10 out of 10! After that, I did what I’d previously planned, I watched the rest of the show from a spot very close to the stage, being about 20 m from Ozzy and his crew. Everything was absolutely perfect. I am not a pro reviewer but you can have a look here http://montrealgazette.com/entertainment/music/concert-review-black-sabbaths-end-comes-with-a-bang-at-the-bell-centre.
I went home satisfied and extremely happy. I also got home by subway for free. I really wasn’t up for walking back home which was 30 min away and when it’s -10 degrees outside.
Thats all for now.
See you in a bit.
