Although Quebec City is much smaller than Montreal, it doesn’t have any less to offer. The number of great cafes, pubs and music venues will surprise you. From among all places with live music it’s fairly difficult to single out the most exciting ones. By exciting I mean those ones which in addition to a good music show, have that thing or just something magic, however you call it. Some places are like magnets. They make a hit themselves with no clear reasons. In Quebec City you may find one of this kind of places… Le Pantoum!. In vain you will search in google for Le Pantoum’s address. Localisation is well hidden so you have to ask for it (for example by sending message on fb) or in case you won’t get answer before the show, try to find it yourself (which is kinda difficult). We had asked a dozen people before we run into somebody who know the secret. As it turned out Le Pantoum is located in a private apartment! How cool is that ?! What’s more it is not solely music venue. The Pantoum is a complex of musical creation with rehearsal, recording and serigraphy studio, operated by a community of autonomous workers of the cultural milieu of the City of Quebec. Fully self-funded, the mission of the Pantoum is to strengthen and disseminate the artistic community through alternative and innovative means.
Le Pantoum really stands out among all Quebec’s venues. By discovering this place I somehow accomplished one of my dreams. I always dreamt about taking part in house concert and here we had the adventure. Maybe party was not like in Whiskey In The Jar clip, but it’s an obligatory venue to visit in Quebec.
P.S To let you have more fun I don’t reveal the address but here you have the clue. Next to Le Pantoum you’ll find Taverne Jos Dion. This pub was the latest one in Canada that allowed women to go inside and have a drink. Thing to remember, before 1986 only men were allowed to enjoy their free time at pubs… Good luck.
